Wireless communication systems require antennas at the transmitter and receiver to operate properly. The concept of metamaterials has been widely applied in the design of microwave, millimetre-wave and terahertz devices and antennas. With the fast development of flexible portable devices such as mobile phones, laptops, wearable devices, etc., antennas with different tuneable functions, based on variable structures, are in demand for next generation of wireless communication systems. It is evident that metamaterial inspired antennas offer exciting new opportunities for existing and future wireless communications and radar systems.
This session focuses on grand challenges in metamaterial antennas, including but not limited to design innovation of metamaterial, (such as 1D & 2D & 3D metamaterial structures, metallic & dielectric metamaterials, and microwave-terahertz-photonic metamaterials, etc.), and attractive gain and isolation antennas based on metamaterial principles toward furture wireless application, (such as electrically small antennas, multiband/ultra-wideband antennas, leaky wave antennas, magnetodielectric microstrip antennas, etc.).
