Session Infomation

From microscale scattering of waves in disordered media to macroscopic homogenization, recent advancements in complex media with engineered structures, such as metamaterials and metasurfaces, continue to unveil unexplored capabilities for wave control. Wave engineering has garnered significant interest in various fields, including optics, microwaves, water waves, seismic waves, and sound waves. However, numerous open questions remain regarding the fundamental processes governing elementary wave-matter interactions and collective responses during wave propagation and conversion in complex media, which limit our understanding and control of such promising effects.
In line with the interdisciplinary nature of the PIERS conference series, the goal of this special session on wave engineering in complex media is to bridge the gap between the theoretical foundations of complex media and the practical applications of wave engineering and foster interdisciplinary interaction. The objective is to make significant contributions to the advancement of transformative applications in wave engineering. Our topics of interest in this session include, but are not limited to, spatiotemperal metmaterials, robotic media, communication engineering, internet of things, industrial monitoring, medical diagnosis, and ocean and environmental engineering.
